SOPA and PIPA have an understandable reason to restrict counterfeit drugs and stop illegal downloading like movies and music. However it is ridiculous the way the bill punishes many different parties that are linked to the one website. The bill would require the website that is breaking the rules and everything linked to it, including Facebook and Youtube, to be shutdown immediately. This all happens before the linked sites have the option to delete the links or comments connecting them to the site in trouble. Hence the phrase, “shoot first, think later,” said by Salman Khan in his educational video SOPA and PIPA.
I think the bill is bullshit. The internet is an area where people can be free and express themselves while hiding behind a computer. Now that we have been use to this freedom for years, there is no way it can be taken away. Even if SOPA and PIPA pass, people everywhere will ban together and protest until the people are satisfied. When Google and Wikipedia close down for 24 hours to show the damage that the bill is capable of, the Senate doesn’t stand a chance.
The truth is, the people rule the media.
